Court of Protection deputyship application service.
PROFESSIONAL | EXPERIENCED | FIXED FEE
Applying for a deputyship can feel daunting — especially when it’s needed at an already stressful time.
When someone loses mental capacity and hasn’t made a Lasting Power of Attorney, families are often left stuck.
Banks, care homes, and other organisations will refuse to deal with you without formal authority. You want to do the right thing — but the forms, rules, and timescales can feel overwhelming.
We can help. Our Court of Protection deputyship service is designed to remove the stress from the process. We do all the legal work and forms while keeping you informed at every stage.
Many people feel relieved when they get a deputyship order. It allows them to focus on caring for their loved one and managing their affairs.
Deputyship applications to the Court of Protection can take a long time. It’s important to act quickly, particularly when a situation is unlikely to improve with time.

What is a deputyship — in plain English?
A deputyship is a court order. It gives someone legal authority to manage another person’s property and financial affairs when that person can’t make decisions due to mental incapacity. The person may have lost mental capacity because of accident or illness such as dementia.
Most people come to us because a person has already lost capacity and it’s no longer possible to make a Lasting Power of Attorney.
We help families apply to the Court of Protection so a suitable person (usually a family member) can be appointed as deputy.
We do not act as professional deputies. We guide you through the application process and obtain the Deputyship Order.
When do people usually need help with a deputyship application?
Many clients contact us after realising they can’t move forward with handling a loved one’s affairs. Examples include:
- A loved one is taken ill or has a health crisis
- Their capacity has declined unnoticed over a period of time
- A care home or local authority asks for proof of authority
- A bank account can’t be accessed or managed
- A property needs to be sold
- Bills, pensions, or investments can’t be managed
- You’ve looked at the deputyship forms and realised how complex they are
You may also be feeling under pressure — emotionally, practically, or both. That’s very common. We’ll take the time to explain your options and guide you calmly through the next steps.

“Do I really need a solicitor for a deputyship application?”
You can apply for deputyship yourself, and for some people that may feel like the right option. There is a full guide and step by step instructions on the .gov website at www.gov.uk/become-deputy
However, people often tell us they hadn’t realised how much paperwork is involved. There is also a requirement for supporting information and it can be easy to make a mistake or omission. Getting something wrong can also lead to additional delays.
Using an experienced, regulated solicitor can give you peace of mind that everything is done properly.
